On this day, consider wine’s important role in history and religion, the many health benefits associated with drinking wine, and, my favorite reason, the ability wine has to enhance food and life itself.
On National Drink Wine Day, be adventurous! Explore something new, splurge on something special, or renew your love for the familiar by drinking a favorite from your cellar or the store.
And what will we be drinking?
We are having one of my favorite meals tomorrow night, seared ahi tuna on a bed of greens, which pairs well with sparkling, white, pink, and red wines. While I’m particularly fond of Washington merlot with this meal, I may just need to toast with this Schramsberg Mirabelle Brut Rose.
But we are also going to have some pesto and sun-dried tomato shrimp on rice so maybe an Oregon chardonnay like Cooper Mountain?
Since it is NATIONAL Drink Wine Day, it does seem that I should stick to a wine from the United States. Maybe I should stay closer to home and open something from Cantara Cellars or Ojai Vineyard?
So many wines so little time!
Maybe I’ll just wait and see what I’m in the mood for when I get home from teaching my college writing classes!
