4 Wine Women of the World and 4 of Their White Wines Paired with Shrimp and Chicken Penne #WomensHistoryMonth

4 Wine Women of the World and 4 of Their White Wines Paired with Shrimp and Chicken Penne

Since March is Women’s History Month, we took a quick roam around the cellar to find wines from women from around the world to pair with one of Sue’s and her mom’s favorite go to dinners: shrimp and chicken penne rustica, an easy dish for their weekly Wednesday night get togethers which they love to pair with red wines like Sangiovese and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. The recipe to me said to try it with these four white wines where women are involved with producing them. We were pleased with the results, and you will be too!

“We teased him about buying a beach,” says Domaine Bousquet owner Anne Bousquet about the sandy soil in the Argentine vineyards purchased by her father using money from the sale of his vineyards in France, “but he was adamant because this soil makes elegant wines and that characteristic was very important to him as a Frenchman.” It also allows them to grow their grapes organically, and now they’ve turned their attention to farming biodynamically. Anne and her husband bought out her father and now run their ever growing business.

Kermit Lynch

Wives are often the unsung heroes of a winery. The winemaker is usually the husband; in the case of Jasnieres Pascal Janvier, his wife Dominque works with him to show what this region of the Loire is capable of. Together they farm The Janviers rent sixty-six different parcels totaling nine hectares which they farm themselves. “There is no doubt that Pascal and Dominique have chosen the path less traveled, though at the first sip of their wine, one understands why they keep working so hard,” says their importer Kermit Lynch.

Appearance:  Pale lemon, platinum rim, crystal clear in the glass, nice golden glow

Aroma: Apples, pear, pear blossom, meadow grass, meadow flowers, smells like spring, lemon thyme, cola, vanilla, mint,

Palate: Slick mouthfeel, lively acidity, lemon, anise caraway, fresh fennel, fennel pollen, cool cleanliness, clean minerals, silex, tuffa,

Pairing: This wine loves the sweet balsamic glaze, brings out the fruit in the wine and the sweetness of the tomatoes  in the salad. The salty richness in the pasta dish works beautifully with the wine. The complex flavors and richness of the meal are swept away and cleansed by the wine. The sweet shrimp in the meal are a perfect compliment to the wine. The bright acidity of the wine is tamed completely by the wine.
