In case you don’t have this leather wine rack for your bike, here’s the way to picnic in style on this bicycle built for two–to have a picnic! Complete with safe storage and travel options for your adult beverages of choice!
Wouldn’t this bicycle be perfect for Burning Man? Or for wheeling around the scenic country roads of wine country?
This custom bike (or custom accessory for YOUR bike!) is available from Fat Kitty Cycles, an employee owned and operated shop in Boulder, CO which offers a mix of new, used, reused, and consignment bicycle sales. They can also fix up that old bike in the garage with some love to make it last another ten years! According to the owners, Fat Kitty Cycles is “Boulder’s newest and most funnest bike shop, featuring new and used bikes, parts, accessories, service, and classes!”
Now if it was only a tandem…
Speaking of picnics and Mother’s Day, wine country is gorgeous this time of year with lots of wild flowers everywhere.
And many wineries are kid friendly! So whether you have a fancy bike or not, pack a picnic, head for the hills, and enjoy the spring scenery at your local winery!
Special events in wine country include concert series. For example, Twisted Oak located in the Sierra foothills, is offering eight concerts this summer:
May 4th: Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band
June 8th: David Lindley with special unrehearsed guest Joe Craven
June 29th: Mumbo Gumbo
July 5th: Uncle Bonsai
July 13th: Dan Hicks and The Hot Licks
July 27th: Jeffery Broussard and The Creole Cowboys
August 2nd: The Deadly Gentlemen
August 16th: Mollie O’Brien & Rich Moore
A local winery might even have an upcoming event where they will do the cooking and the clean-up for you! I know I have my heart set on the second upcoming dinner at Ojai Vineyard’s Winery nestled between Ventura and Ojai May 18.
I say the second because my husband didn’t have a chance to get me the first–all 40 seats sold out in four hours! And only members are invited and limited to four tickets!
Typical of many such winery events held around the country, festivities at Ojai Vineyard begin at 4:30pm with a tour of the winery and a tasting of the 2012 wines in the barrel. The winery staff will be on hand to discuss in depth any question you have about style, technique or wine philosophy. The event is $75 and includes barrel tasting, dinner and wine. Visit their Events Page to view their upcoming events!
You can find out what’s going on by liking a winery on facebook or joining their mailing list.
So look up YOUR local winery and see what special events they have planned for Mother’s Day as well as this spring and summer!

But what is that thing resembling a red pressure vessel?

At first I thought it was a bike pump but I have it on good authority that it is not. If you look closely, it has a tube connecting to the picnic area. It looks like some sort of co2 cannister so I’m guessing it makes soda!
