Wine Predator plans to prowl this weekend at two Southern California wine festivals this weekend: LA WineFest which runs June 9 and 10, and the 26th Annual Ojai Wine Fest Sunday June 10 from 1-5pm on the shores of Lake Casitas near Ojai, CA.
First up, the LA WineFest this Saturday from 2-6pm and Sunday from noon-5pm: LA’s largest wine festival! Over 500 wines from over 20 countries will be poured plus entertainment and samples of spirits, beer, and food. The venue is the historic Raleigh Studios, 5300 Melrose in Hollywood.
Tickets for LA WineFest are $75 per person per day, benefit City of Hope, and can be purchased here. You can also add classes on various wine and spirit related topics for $30 per person. I’m particularly interested in catching the one on Dry Creek Valley Zin on Saturday at 1:30; I love those zins!
Wine expert Dan Fredman will lead 30 people in an exploration of Northern Sonoma’s famed Dry Creek Valley, where Italian and Swiss immigrants have been growing world-class Zinfandel for more than a century. Taste rare and sold-out Zinfandels from top producers, such as Ridge, Wilson, Mauritson, Sbragia. Quivira and Ferrari-Carano.
Sunday’s Ojai Wine Festival takes place on the sunny, verdant, peaceful shores of Lake Casitas from 1-5pm. Organized by the Rotary Club of Ojai West, this nonprofit organization funds many humanitarian and community projects, including the environmental science based educational Lake Casitas Boat Tours for Ojai public schools. Free boat rides will be available to attendees.
Last year 64 wineries poured over 250 wines and this year organizers expect the same; the event also includes beer tasting, food for purchase, craft vendors, silent auction and entertainment at the lakeside Recreational Area Event Site where children can play.
